Chipmunk, the hottest new name on the grime scene is the youngest artist ever to win a MOBO award. The 18 year old walked away with the Best Newcomer award in 2008. “It’s an honour to win a MOBO,” says Chipmunk. “It’s good to be rewarded for everything I am putting into my community.” Even more impressively Chipmunk won the award before even releasing his first official single.
If Chipmunk’s already a familiar name that might be because his Myspace page has had over 2 million views and his freestyle on Westwood’s radio show has had over 1.1 million hits on You Tube.
Still at college in London studying for his A-Levels, Chipmunk will undoubtedly feel like he has a lot to prove, but others might think he’s already done that after writing every song on his album as well as ripping up crowds in support of stars like Lil Wayne and Dipset.
Keep an eye on Chipmunk – he’s undoubtedly one of the most exciting acts for 2009.
