Echolocation

Leicester based ‘Avant-Rock’ band Echolocation have been around in various guises for more than a decade, several members were in the well received Bocca and some were in art/noise improvisational band ‘Chomsky’ in the mid nineties (this sound was later called Post-Rock). Their distinctive sound marries the “Nu Beat” poetry of Peter Ingram with the tight and surprisingly melodic sound created by Harvey Sharman-Dunn (guitar), Andy Askey (Bass), Alan Tang (Keyboards, violin, guitar and assorted noises), Dan Hessing (drums), and Paul Hing (Flugelhorn).

They have been compared to many artists from The Fall, Can, to The Streets, yet no one can quite put their finger on where this sound comes from as it is a distillation of years of playing together ploughing their own furrow. These are world-weary troubadours, uncompromising and angry at the state of world that they live in.

Echolocation released their extraordinary debut album C92 on the independent haunted by fame label in 2008. The album is a collection of songs that reveal the dislocation and disassociation of living in a city that is not your own, a city you did not grow up in, a city where you just somehow ended up. Their follow up album, Revenge of the Yes Men, will soon be released.
